AQ1000 facts

A compact optical time domain reflectometer for access networks

The Yokogawa AQ1000 is an OTDR for installing and troubleshooting single-mode FTTH, PON and last-mile networks. Simple operation does not hide the data: technicians can move from Full-Auto to the conventional trace, event table and report whenever deeper analysis is required.

When is the AQ1000 the right choice?

When low weight, fast start-up and a repeatable 1310/1550 nm workflow are the priorities.

  • FTTH drop installation and acceptance testing
  • locating connectors, splices, loss and fibre breaks
  • troubleshooting new and dark fibres
  • field testing of single-mode access networks

One consistent workflow

From the Full-Auto button to the report

Automation speeds up the test, while direct access to the trace and settings allows the result to be verified whenever a project needs more detailed analysis.

Full-Auto

The AQ1000 starts the measurement and configures the primary test parameters.

Event detection

It locates and characterises connectors, splices and other changes along the link.

PASS / FAIL

Detected events are compared with thresholds defined by the user.

SOR or PDF

Save the underlying data for analysis or generate a readable field report.

Important: PASS/FAIL is based on the configured thresholds and does not by itself demonstrate compliance with every operator or standards requirement.

Two views of the same link

Fast orientation first. Full context when needed.

Map view converts detected events into an easy-to-read sequence of icons. Trace view retains the reflectogram, markers and measurement context required for a complete technical assessment.

  • Trace viewcomplete analysis of waveform shape and measurement settings

Built for field work

One hand. Work gloves. Measurement-ready in under 10 seconds.

The 5.0-inch capacitive screen supports familiar gestures, while physical keys remain available for gloved or cold-weather operation. A folding stand makes detailed review easier on a bench or in a cabinet.

Is the AQ1000 the right model?

Selection should follow the loss budget, splitter layout, wavelengths and measurement procedure — not one dynamic-range figure alone.

Technical questions

Yokogawa AQ1000 FAQ

What networks is the Yokogawa AQ1000 designed for?

The AQ1000 is an OTDR for single-mode access, FTTH/PON, last-mile and new or dark-fibre networks. It operates at 1310 and 1550 nm.

What is the dynamic range of the AQ1000?

The typical dynamic range is 32 dB at 1310 nm and 30 dB at 1550 nm. Yokogawa specifies these values at a 10 µs pulse width, 3-minute measurement time, 8 m sampling resolution and SNR = 1.

Can the AQ1000 test PON networks?

Yes. Yokogawa positions the AQ1000 for access and FTTH/PON networks. Suitability for a particular link still depends on the loss budget and splitter arrangement; dynamic range alone does not guarantee measurement through every cascade.

Does the AQ1000 provide automatic PASS/FAIL assessment?

Yes. Full-Auto detects and characterises link events and compares them with user-defined thresholds. The thresholds must be configured for the applicable project or operator requirements.

Which additional functions are built in?

A Power Checker and stabilised 1310/1550 nm light source are standard. The 650 nm visible light source requires the /VLS option, and wireless connectivity requires /WLN.

Which file formats does the AQ1000 support?

Results can be stored as SOR files or PDF reports. Files are transferred through USB or, with the /WLN option, wirelessly.

How long does the battery last and how quickly does it boot?

The AQ1000 is measurement-ready in under 10 seconds. Its battery provides at least 10 hours of operation under Telcordia test conditions.

When should I consider the AQ1210, AQ7280 or AQ7290 instead?

Compare the higher AQ-series models when the application requires greater dynamic range, additional wavelengths, live-fibre maintenance testing, multi-fibre workflows or more advanced analysis functions.

Do not buy “dynamic range” alone. Select an OTDR for the actual measurement.
