Excellent OTDR performance

Improved dynamic range

The AQ7290’s dynamic range has increased by 1–3 dB at all wavelengths vs the predecessor AQ7280. This enables measurement of greater distances that were previously out of reach.

Improved event-detection performance

Event dead zone ≤ 0.6 m, attenuation dead zone ≤ 2.5 m. Distinguishes closely spaced connectors – indoor and fixed cabling.

PON measurement – supports split ratios up to 1:128

The AQ7290 supports PON networks with a split of up to 128 subscribers. Two Real-Time modes (High-Speed and High-Reflection) ensure an accurate reading even at a high reflection coefficient.

Ease of use

8.4" touchscreen

Capacitive multi-touch with pinch-zoom and drag support. Simply touch an icon in the main menu.

USB Power Delivery

Charging via USB Type-C (Power Delivery 2.0, min. 45 W). Works with a power bank. Runtime: 15 hours.

Simple OTDR – a mode for beginners

One-button measurement. A pop-up guides you through the successive steps – no OTDR experience required.

Remote control over Wi-Fi

Via an external LAN adapter – operate from a smartphone or PC through a browser. Eliminates the need for two technicians on a single operation.

Multitasking – more than an OTDR

Available in parallel with the OTDR measurement:

Smart Mapper and multi-fiber measurement

The Smart Mapper function is an advanced mode for automatic measurement and analysis of a fiber optic network. At the press of one button the device performs the measurements itself, detects all events in the network and makes a PASS/FAIL assessment against user-defined thresholds. The icon map view lets you instantly see the location and type of every event – connectors, splices, splitter, fiber end – without having to analyse raw OTDR traces.

Advanced multi-pulse analysis

The AQ7290 takes measurements with different pulse widths (short, medium, long) and then automatically merges the selected segments of each trace into one optimal trace. A short pulse width provides accuracy near connectors, a long one provides range over large distances. The result is a complete, precise picture of the entire route, followed by automatic event analysis.

Smart Mapper: merging traces from different pulse widths → event analysis → PASS/FAIL assessment on the network map

Multi-fiber measurement up to 2000 fibers

The multi-fiber project module creates a table mapping the distribution-box configuration – up to 2000 fibers. Each measured fiber is automatically saved under its number, and a change in the number colour signals test completion and prevents omissions. Integrated control of the external AQ3550 optical switch allows the measurement sequence to be automated without manually re-connecting cables.
