NorthLab ProCleave™ TF is an electronic fiber optic cleaver designed specifically for thin and reduced-cladding fibers with a cladding diameter below 80 µm (30–80 µm range). Such thin fibers are today the foundation of photonics miniaturization — they allow building smaller, lighter and more densely packed assemblies: miniature fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG) for navigation and ultra-thin, embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors for structural monitoring and medical applications.
The device uses an ultrasonic diamond blade that ensures repeatable, high-quality cleaving. Precise control of fiber tension enables cleaving at very low tension — which is crucial for delicate, thin fibers — giving flat endfaces and low cleave angles (typically below 1°) with minimal blade depth.
The universal, fast clamping mechanism eases work and increases throughput, and power from a built-in battery or mains supply works well both on the production line and in the R&D laboratory. ProCleave TF works with the fiber holders of leading splicers (Fujikura, Fitel, 3SAE).*
