NorthLab Linear Tensile Tester is an automatic tensile strength tester for optical fibers (proof-test), designed for fibers with a cladding diameter of 80–400 µm; the clamps handle coatings up to 1000 µm.
Operation comes down to a single-button loading of the fiber and an automatic test cycle. The built-in LCD display shows the „pass” result and the maximum force (in newtons or kpsi) applied to the fiber. The device also supports a break test — it stretches the fiber until it breaks and shows the maximum force reached.
The built-in LCD and keypad provide fully standalone operation (without a PC) and access to programmatically adjustable clamp pressure, maximum stress, ramp speed and proof-test hold time — in 10 configurable programs. The motorized clamping system requires no external compressed air. The compact design gives full mobility — to the laboratory and to production. Powered by a universal AC–12 V DC power supply; the RS-232 port enables firmware updates and data collection.
