AEM FiBLU – Application-based Fiber Tester and Certifier

The AEM FiBLU is a next-generation, application-driven fiber tester and certifier that moves measurement intelligence from expensive hardware into the UniBlu smartphone app. A compact measurement module paired with the UniBlu app (iOS/Android) delivers full, standards-compliant certification of fiber links — faster, cheaper and with instant cloud reporting.

  • Application-based architecture — new features via updates, no hardware swaps
  • Bidirectional certification at two wavelengths (SM 1310/1550 nm, MM 850/1300 nm)
  • Loopback and dual-ended modes; AutoTest 5–6 s; loss accuracy ≤ 0.2 dB
  • Over 18 h of operation / 5000+ tests per charge; USB-C charging
  • Instant cloud sync of results and remote team collaboration
  • Built-in VFL — visual fault locator (650 nm)

The AEM FiBLU sets a new standard in fiber certification. Instead of locking the interface and measurement logic inside an expensive, quickly-aging tester, FiBLU separates the measurement engine from the intelligence layer: the interface, compute unit and reporting environment are taken over by a smartphone running the free UniBlu app. The result is lighter hardware, longer operating time, seamless cloud integration and — most importantly — the ability to grow the tool alongside the network, without repeated hardware investments.

Application-based architecture — a real shift, not an add-on

FiBLU is not a traditional tester with an app bolted on — it is application-based at its core. The smartphone becomes the interface, the compute unit and the collaboration platform, unlocking capabilities unavailable to testers with an on-device screen:

  • Continuous feature development — new analyses and workflows are delivered through app updates, without hardware swaps. This extends the device life cycle and lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Lower power consumption and lighter hardware in everyday field work.
  • Built-in connectivity for sharing results, collaboration and analytics.
  • A richer, intuitive interface familiar from the smartphone.

Operation is handled through the free UniBlu app (Google Play / App Store). An icon-based screen guides the technician through the entire process — Set Reference, Light Source / Power Meter, VFL and Auto Test — with automatic pass/fail assessment and instant saving of results to the cloud.

Features that drive efficiency

1. Certify right the first time. High-accuracy, standards-compliant measurement confirms the link meets requirements before the network is handed over — eliminating costly rework and post-deployment troubleshooting.

2. Instant reports, zero backlog. Results sync in real time across all users’ apps via the cloud — no more evening data uploads or forgotten tests.

3. Built-in collaboration. Test data can be shared instantly or reviewed remotely in the app — experts support field teams without travelling on-site.

4. Uninterrupted field work. A compact, field-ready design: over 18 hours of continuous operation or 5000+ tests on a single charge, charging via USB-C.

5. Secure, role-based cloud workflows. Fully cloud-based testing with role-based workflow using Google Drive and OneDrive — secure, user-controlled data management.

Two variants — matched to the network

FiBLU-SM — for single-mode links; measurement at two wavelengths 1310 nm and 1550 nm with a laser source; length range up to 20 km.

FiBLU-MM — for multimode links; measurement at 850 nm and 1300 nm with an encircled-flux-compliant LED source; length range up to 2 km.

Each variant supports loopback and dual-ended modes (measurement from both ends of the link) using a main and a remote unit. A built-in visual fault locator (VFL, 650 nm) makes it easy to quickly detect breaks and macrobends.

Typical applications

  • Fiber certification during installation — confirming the loss budget and standards compliance before the network goes live.
  • Throughput verification before acceptance — checking that the infrastructure will support the intended applications and bandwidth.
  • Performance verification and troubleshooting — quickly detecting losses, degradation and installation errors.
  • Network health analysis over time — historical data supports predictive maintenance and planning.
  • Industrial and mission-critical environments — reliable connectivity where availability, accuracy and documentation matter.
