AFL FlowScout Downstream PON Power Meter (DPPM) is a handheld optical power meter for PON networks that automatically detects and simultaneously measures coexisting downstream power levels: 1490 nm GPON/EPON and 1550 nm RF Video or 1577 nm XG/XGS/10GEPON. AFL FlowScout Downstream PON Power Meter (DPPM) is a handheld optical power meter designed to automatically detect and simultaneously measure coexisting downstream PON network power levels: 1490 nm (GPON/EPON) and 1550 nm (RF Video) or 1577 nm (XG/XGS/10GEPON). It is the tool of choice for technicians activating and servicing FTTH access networks.
The FlowScout DPPM features a large, colour touchscreen with a simple, icon-based interface that presents measured power levels with colour-coded pass/fail results. Measured values are automatically evaluated against ITU-T recommendations or min/max limits set by the user. A single port automatically detects PON and broadband wavelengths — with no need for manual configuration.
The DPPM includes a broadband optical power meter for measuring power and insertion loss. Additional wavelengths can be measured using a compatible CW or Wave ID source. When a Wave ID source is used, the measurement process automatically synchronises with the source wavelengths, shortening test time and eliminating wavelength setting errors. The broadband meter automatically detects and reports the presence of fiber identifier tones: 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz.
Measured power levels, pass/fail limits and status are stored in internal memory and downloaded via USB. Results can be transferred for further analysis, editing and report generation in the FlexReports PC software using the AFL FlexReporter™ suite.
The solid, ergonomic meter is covered by an industry-leading 5-year warranty and provides IP54 protection, making it ideal for work in harsh conditions. The rechargeable battery enables 16 hours of continuous operation, and the unit can also operate while charging from the supplied AC adapter. Field-replaceable output adapters support various connector types (SC, FC, ST, LC). Basic kits are supplied in a convenient soft carrying case. Typical applications: verifying power levels during PON activation and troubleshooting, measuring insertion loss to the FTTH subscriber, automatic multi-wavelength insertion loss measurements and fiber identifier tone detection.
