The AFL Contractor Series is an economical, pocket-sized line of optical light sources (CSS1) and power meters (CSM1) for insertion loss measurement (OLTS) and certification of single-mode (SM) and multimode (MM) fiber links. Lightweight (0.29 kg), rugged tools with a 5-year warranty — ideal for field work.
The AFL Contractor Series comprises rugged test instruments with a simple user interface, backed by a best-in-industry 5-year warranty. Both single-mode (SM) and multimode (MM) variants form complete OLTS kits for measuring link insertion loss, verifying continuity and identifying fiber before splicing. The pocket-sized, lightweight designs are ideal for the installer’s everyday field work.
Four models provide a wide range of wavelengths and power levels. The meter stores optical references for each calibrated wavelength, automatically detects test tones used for fiber identification, and the input port accepts a variety of screw-on adapters (FC, SC, ST, LC, 2.5 mm, 1.25 mm). Models: CSM1-3 (single-mode measurements) and CSM1-4 (high-power single-mode measurements).
The single-mode laser source emits 1310 nm and 1550 nm from a single test port. The output port accepts UCI screw-on adapters (FC, SC, ST, LC), providing flexibility and access to the launch fiber for cleaning and inspection. Class I laser.
The multimode LED source emits 850 nm and 1300 nm from a single test port. Mandrels for 50 μm and 62.5 μm fiber are included. CSS1 sources transmit in CW (continuous wave) mode and emit test tones (2000, 1000, 330, 270 Hz) for fiber identification — power meters are used where the fiber end is accessible, and an OFI optical fiber identifier for in-span measurement.
Available test kits: CKS-3 (SM, 70 dB dynamic range @ 1310/1550 nm over 9/125 fiber), CKM-3 (MM, 40 dB @ 850/1300 nm over 62.5/125 fiber) and CKSM-2 (SM+MM). Typical applications include link insertion loss measurement, certification of SM and MM links to industry standards, and continuity checking and fiber identification before splicing. Test patch cords are required for operation (ordered separately).
