The AFL FlowScout SE100 is a single-ended fiber tester with a built-in CW reflectometer.
The AFL FlowScout SE100 is a single-ended tester for verifying continuity and measuring the insertion loss of a fiber link from one end. It works with AFL 1430 nm reflectors and includes a built-in CW reflectometer and live-fiber detection — ideal for FTTH, FTTA and backhaul networks.
The AFL FlowScout SE100 is a single-ended tester designed to verify fiber continuity and measure insertion loss up to the end of a link terminated with an AFL 1430 nm reflector. Once the reflector is detected, the SE100 immediately confirms link continuity and measures insertion loss at 1430 nm. The reflector is nearly transparent to PON and other wavelength signals, so it can remain installed while the network is in service.
By combining a light source and a power meter in one affordable tester, the FlowScout SE100 lets a single technician verify continuity and measure insertion loss, reducing equipment cost by more than 38% and labor cost by more than 50%.
Traditional double-ended measurements require equipment setup and coordination between two technicians. The FlowScout SE100 eliminates the time-consuming setup and coordination, and also reduces the number of visits to subscribers, demarcation points and cell-tower climbs.
Testing from the distribution panel or splitter eliminates the need for diagnostics at the subscriber’s premises and repeated tower climbs when servicing FTTA links — measurement from the distribution unit (DU) to the reflectors at the radio unit (RU) is performed from ground level.
The FlowScout SE100 warns the user of excessive reflection or the presence of a live signal in the network under test. Reflection problems — caused by damaged, open, mismatched or dirty connectors — often degrade network performance; the device signals them immediately and displays the ORL value.
