Furukawa FITEL S154-AC Fusion Splicer

The FITEL S154-AC is a fusion splicer with active cladding alignment (Active Clad Alignment) – the successor to the S153 model. A splice in 6 seconds with SM loss of 0.03 dB, a 4.3" touchscreen, support for SOC connectors, a removable v-groove and IP52/IK07 ruggedness. It weighs 1.85 kg.

FITEL S154-AC is a fusion splicer with active cladding alignment (Active Clad Alignment) – the direct successor to the FITEL S153 model. It splices in just 6 seconds with an SM loss of 0.03 dB, supports splice-on connectors (SOC), and thanks to its 4.3" touchscreen and removable v-groove it is one of the most convenient field fusion splicers in its class.

The S154-AC is built on the proven, rugged body of the FITEL S179 splicers. It combines the precision of active alignment with IP52 and IK07 field ruggedness – making it an ideal tool for building FTTx networks, data centre installations, and Metro and backbone networks.

Active cladding alignment – a class above a fixed v-groove

A fixed V-groove only positions the fibers mechanically and does not correct their alignment. Active cladding alignment in the S154-AC monitors the position of both fibers and actively aligns them before splicing, delivering repeatably low losses – in practice indistinguishable from full core-alignment splicers on modern G.652 and G.657 single-mode fibers (FTTH), at a lower purchase cost.

Fast and repeatable splicing

Heating the protection sleeve takes just 15 seconds (60 mm sleeve, Power mode), and the built-in battery lasts for about 200 cycles of splicing and heating – enough for a full day of fieldwork. The S154-AC works with fibers of 80–150 µm cladding diameter and 100–1000 µm coating, with a cleave length of 5–16 mm.

Field ruggedness: IP52 and IK07

The S154-AC body passed 5-sided drop tests (IK07 impact resistance) and is sealed to IP52 (IP5X dust protection + IPX2 protection against dripping water). It operates at temperatures from -10 to +50 °C and humidity up to 95%. The removable v-groove and electrodes let you clean the optics and restore full performance in the field within seconds, without servicing – which genuinely increases equipment uptime.

SOC support, touchscreen and connectivity

The S154-AC supports a wide range of connectors terminated directly on the fiber (Splice-on Connectors, SOC) – an increasingly popular solution in FTTx installations thanks to the speed of field assembly. Operation is made easier by the 4.3-inch touchscreen with an intuitive interface, while the USB 2.0 ports (type A and mini B) and the optional Wi-Fi module enable export of splice reports and updates. The machine holds up to 300 splice programs and 100 heating programs.

Position in the FITEL range

The S154-AC is a field splicer with active cladding alignment – the sweet spot between economical models and core-alignment machines. Depending on your needs, it is worth considering related FITEL models:
