fEMG Facial Electromyogram Smart Amplifier

The fEMG100D amplifier from the latest “Smart Amplifier” series has been precisely optimized for recording the most subtle facial electromyographic signals (e.g. the zygomatic muscle and the muscle that furrows the brow). Thanks to an ultra-high gain factor (Gain: x2000) and an extremely low noise floor (0.2 µV rms), the device flawlessly captures the minimal voltages of the facial muscles. The “Smart” design allows the module to be clipped directly onto the subject’s clothing, drastically shortening lead wires and eliminating motion artifacts typical of traditional systems.

Key Parameters

The fEMG Facial Electromyogram Smart Amplifier is designed specifically for recording EMG signals from the face and the electrical activity of other small muscle groups. It enables analysis of facial expressions and startle paradigms.

Research Applications

EMG: Electromyography, Psychophysiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Sleep Research, Remote Monitoring

Transmission Parameters (2000 Hz)

Telemetry data is transmitted at a rate of 2000 Hz, ensuring ultra-high waveform resolution at the receiver. The system is equipped with internal, optional Highpass and Lowpass filters that compensate for possible hand-motion artifacts.

Wearable Architecture

The module simulates a classic “wired” connection to the computer, while at the same time delivering the full benefits of a Wearable system:

Body mounting: The transmitter can be easily clipped onto the patient’s wrist using the included elastic Velcro strap, or worn in the dedicated BioNomadix Shirt.

Noise immunity (CMRR): Because the device is battery-powered and isolated from the mains (no 50/60 Hz power cables on the patient), the common-mode rejection ratio is extremely high. Notch Filters are typically not required at all!

Safety: The absence of physical contact between the patient’s equipment and the fixed power installation minimizes any risk of electric shock.

Architecture and Compatibility

MP200 Research System, AMI100D Amplifier Input Module

Signal Flow (Data Flow)

The BIOPAC acquisition system relies on an efficient chain of interconnected modules that ensure crystal-clear signal integrity from the patient all the way to the final waveform on the screen.

01

Signal Amplifier (Smart Amplifier)

Records the physiological signal directly from the patient, amplifying and hardware-filtering it to ensure an absolutely clean and stable reading.

02

Input Module

Passes the amplified physiological signal directly to the MP160 or MP200 research station. Guarantees lossless, real-time transmission.

03

Main Unit (MP200) & Software

The main station synchronizes signals from other interfaces (e.g. an Eye-Tracker) and reliably transmits them over a cable via the Ethernet protocol to the powerful AcqKnowledge software on the researcher's computer.
