As manufacturers increasingly use specialty fibers to build optical components and fiber lasers, conventional splicers prove bulky, expensive, and unsuitable for these applications. Focusing on functions essential to production, Furukawa created the S185 Fusion Splicer series – a line of more compact, economical, and efficient splicers for use in production and with specialty fibers, including polarization-maintaining fiber (PM fiber) and large-diameter fiber (LDF). The FITEL S185 Fusion Splicer series currently comprises three splicer models: S185PM, S185HS, and S185LDF. The S185PM and S185HS splicers are intended for use with PM fibers for optical components.
