The tunnel displacement sensor is an optical fiber sensor designed to measure the movement of disturbances in the concrete layer in tunnels. It is based on Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) technology, and an intelligent transduction mechanism converts the displacement between the concrete layer and the sandstone masonry into elongation of the optical fiber.
The sensor can provide micrometer accuracy and consists of a metal tube and a special mounting head. The metal tube is fixed in a hole in the tunnel wall, and the front of the sensor is attached to the tunnel surface.
The FBGS-01D sensor features high accuracy and resolution as well as immunity to electrical sparks and electromagnetic interference. It is suitable for remote sensing and can be installed several kilometers away from the measurement unit. It is protected against complete, continuous immersion in water, ensuring IP68 protection.
The tunnel displacement sensor is used to measure changes in surface strain in real time in a tunnel, in order to detect the peeling of concrete layers on the tunnel surface. This enables continuous monitoring of the structural condition. Electrical power is not required on site, and the interrogator can be located tens of kilometers away.
