In addition to splicing standard fibers, the FITEL S183 can splice polarization-maintaining fibers while preserving polarization, faster than any other fusion splicer in the world! The new rotation mechanism of the S183PM enables precise rotation around the fiber’s longitudinal axis while maintaining a firm grip and a stable position.
FITEL S183PM II is a specialized fusion splicer designed for laboratories, optical component manufacturers, and R&D facilities. Its key advantage is splicing polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers while preserving polarization at the lowest possible crosstalk value — faster and more precisely than any other FITEL model.
The S183 supports not only standard fibers (SM, MM, DSF, NZDSF) but the entire range of specialty fibers: PANDA and BOW-TIE polarization-maintaining fibers, erbium-doped fibers (EDF), large-cladding-diameter fibers (up to 500 µm), photonic crystal fibers (PCF), and high-delta HighΔ fibers. It automatically recognizes the fiber type and selects splicing parameters without the need to change V-grooves or holders.
⇒ splicing PM fibers (polarization-maintaining fibers)
Splicing polarization-maintaining fibers requires precise alignment of the polarization axes of both fibers being joined. The S183 performs this fully automatically, thanks to an innovative rotation mechanism:
