Silixa XT-DTS

Silixa XT-DTS™

DTS performance and reliability in extreme operating conditions

  • Operation in extreme temperatures: The system is optimized to work with sensing cables resistant to temperatures reaching up to +300°C (and more in special configurations), making it a leader in the extraction sector.

  • Long measurement range: XT-DTS offers stable readings over distances up to 15 km (and more depending on configuration), enabling the monitoring of entire lengths of deep wells or extensive pipelines.

  • Unmatched stability (Low Drift): Thanks to a unique optical architecture and auto-calibration systems, XT-DTS minimizes data drift caused by changes in the ambient temperature of the unit itself, which is critical in outdoor installations.

  • Low power consumption and mobility: The unit has been designed to operate in remote locations with limited access to power, without loss of computational performance.

Silixa XT-DTS is a high-performance temperature interrogator designed specifically for use in harsh field and industrial conditions. While the ULTIMA series focuses on record-breaking resolution, XT-DTS prioritizes maximum stability, robustness, and range, delivering precise thermal data where high temperatures, high pressure, or aggressive chemicals prevail.

Key technical parameters:

  • Operating principle: Raman scattering (precise temperature measurement independent of cable strain).

  • Spatial resolution: Typically 1 m (optimized for long ranges).

  • Measurement time: Temperature profile can be read in under 30 seconds.

  • Enclosure: Rugged design suited to continuous (24/7) operation in rack cabinets or technological containers.

Main applications:

  1. Oil & Gas (Upstream): Monitoring thermal processes in wells (e.g., in SAGD technology), production profiling, and cementing integrity control.

  2. Geothermal: Continuous temperature monitoring in geothermal power plants and optimization of heat exchanger operation.

  3. Mining: Fire detection in deep workings and thermal monitoring of ventilation systems.

  4. Power: Thermal monitoring of large transformers and power cables operating under heavy load.

Advantage over standard systems:

Most DTS systems on the market struggle to maintain accuracy when the temperature of the device itself fluctuates or when the sensing cable is exposed to hydrogen (the hydrogen darkening phenomenon). XT-DTS™ features advanced compensation mechanisms that keep the data reliable even in such adverse conditions. It is an “install and forget” solution for the most demanding engineers.
