Albedo Net.Time φ – PTP/NTP over PRP Clock for IEC 61850

Albedo Net.Time φ (Phi) is a PTP/NTP over PRP clock designed to integrate conventional substations (GPS, IRIG-B) with the new IEC 61850 standard – with 22 outputs, 9 time references, and fanless operation up to 65°C.

Albedo Net.Time φ (Phi) is a PTP/NTP over PRP clock designed to ease the integration of conventional GPS- and IRIG-B-based substations with the new IEC 61850 standards. It offers a full range of input/output interfaces, treating legacy signals (IRIG-B, NTP, 1PPS) and PTP as equals in terms of availability and quality – enabling a smooth, painless migration of the time infrastructure in the power industry. It can be equipped with an OCXO or Rubidium oscillator for high-quality time in holdover mode.
Net.Time φ timing flexibility – any combination of inputs and outputs (PTP, NTP, IRIG-B, PPS, SyncE).

Key advantages of Net.Time φ

  • Native PTP/NTP over PRP – key for redundant IEC 61850 substation networks (no external RedBox)
  • Direct IRIG-B integration and smooth legacy → PTP migration
  • 22 simultaneous outputs, 9 time references, 5 modules – scalable to the topology
  • Fanless operation up to 65°C, optical and electrical interfaces
  • GNSS anti-spoofing + holdover (OCXO / Rubidium) – resilience against GPS loss and jamming
  • Support for PTP, NTP, ToD, IRIG-B, DCF77, n × MHz, n × PPS, T1, E1; up to 1024 unicast PTP clients
  • Simultaneous PTP and NTP, advanced web interface
  • Atomic accuracy, tolerance to reference loss

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is PTP over PRP and why does it matter in IEC 61850?

PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol, IEC 62439-3) provides seamless redundancy in substation networks. Net.Time φ transports PTP/NTP natively over two parallel PRP networks (as a DAN-P clock), which eliminates the external RedBox and guarantees synchronization continuity in power automation.

Does Net.Time φ let me keep existing IRIG-B signals?

Yes. The device integrates IRIG-B directly and treats legacy signals as equals to PTP, enabling a gradual migration without replacing the entire infrastructure at once.

Is it suitable for substation conditions?

Yes – fanless operation up to 65°C and tolerance to reference loss make it a substation-class clock; the rubidium oscillator provides holdover after GNSS loss.
