What is XGS-PON and how does it differ from GPON?

XGS-PON is a symmetrical 10-gigabit PON standard (ITU-T G.9807.1), offering about 10 Gb/s in both directions, whereas classic GPON (G.984.x) delivers 2.5 Gb/s down / 1.25 Gb/s up. XGS-PON is the successor to GPON and coexists with it on the same fiber. The GPON Doctor 9k7 analyzes the XGS-PON protocol; for both technologies at once, use the 10k7 model.
