The ALBEDO GPON Doctor 10k7 is a dual GPON and XGS-PON protocol analyzer in a single, standalone housing – it combines the functions of the 4k7 and 9k7 models thanks to two operating modes (GPON and XGS-PON), and additionally offers an optical power meter as well as line error detection and reporting. One tool for maintaining and certifying 2.5-gigabit and 10-gigabit networks.

Most popular FTTH testers (PON power meters, OTDR reflectometers, fiber identifiers) work at the optical layer — they measure power and attenuation and locate fiber faults. The GPON Doctor works one layer higher — at the protocol layer: it decodes and interprets PLOAM, OMCI, GEM/XGEM control frames and bandwidth allocation (DBA). It is a different class of tool, answering the question „why the service is not working”, and not just „whether there is a signal”.
It is precisely this capability — the analysis and decryption of control and user traffic — that distinguishes the GPON Doctor from the offerings of VIAVI, EXFO or VeEX (PON power meters / OTDRs). The passive, chipset-independent acquisition hardware delivers a neutral result, independent of any manufacturer’s OLT or ONT implementation — which is why it is a reference tool in interoperability testing and compliance certification.

How does the 10k7 differ from the 4k7 and 9k7 models?
The 10k7 is a dual device – in a single housing it contains the functions of a GPON analyzer (like the 4k7) and an XGS-PON analyzer (like the 9k7), switched between GPON and XGS-PON mode. In addition, it has a built-in optical power meter and line error detection, which the single-technology models do not offer.
Can a single device handle a network in which GPON and XGS-PON coexist on one fiber?
Yes. Operators often run GPON and XGS-PON in parallel (coexistence on the same ODN). The 10k7 analyzes both technologies, which makes it possible to diagnose the entire access network with a single tool instead of two.
Does the 10k7 replace an optical power meter?
The 10k7 has a built-in power meter and line error detection, so it combines optical-layer measurement with deep protocol analysis. It is, however, a protocol-analyzer-class tool, not a simple pocket power meter – its value lies in interpreting PLOAM/OMCI and in compliance certification.
