The AFL OFI-200D is a rugged, handheld fiber identifier that detects optical signals on a live single-mode fiber without interrupting transmission. Once clamped onto the fiber, it indicates whether there is NO SIGNAL, TONE or TRAFFIC, and the signal direction — letting you unambiguously identify the fiber without the risk of accidentally interrupting service.
The AFL OFI-200D is a rugged, handheld and easy-to-use fiber identifier, designed to detect optical signals carried on a live single-mode fiber without interrupting traffic. Simply clamp it onto the fiber to read whether there is NO SIGNAL, TONE or TRAFFIC, and to learn the signal direction. This lets personnel unambiguously identify a specific fiber during installation, maintenance, rerouting or network restoration — eliminating the risk of accidentally interrupting the service being provided.
The OFI-200D uses a unique optical head with a two-position pusher, so it handles 250 µm, 900 µm and ribbon fiber as well as 2 mm and 3 mm jacketed fiber. Unlike other identifiers, it does not require buying, storing or swapping pushers every time you change fiber type. The slim head design makes access easier in space-constrained splice trays.
The OFI-200D head induces a safe, repeatable macrobend of the fiber, which allows a small amount of light to escape for analysis. The insertion loss introduced is small enough that it does not affect the signal or the integrity of the fiber — the measurement is fully non-invasive.
The OFI-200D is a simple, rugged tool with a drop-resistant design, ideal for indoor and outdoor work. The ergonomic macrobend trigger is comfortable to operate, and the integrated, backlit LCD display enables work in poorly lit locations. A widely available battery powers thousands of measurements; the instrument also has a low-battery indicator and a 5-year warranty.
