Taper Manufacturing Station (TMS) is a highly advanced device for producing fiber tapers and couplers. The process takes place in a partial vacuum, which ensures high cleanliness and control of the plasma field. The width of the heat zone has a significant impact on the fiber tapers produced. The electrodes have been designed to increase their service life 10x. Tests confirm the high quality of the TMS process, including the absence of glass contamination, which eliminates the need for etching and reduces production costs.

The TMS has 3 programs for configuring fiber tapers: unidirectional, bidirectional, and so-called „table based tapering”. For unidirectional tapers, the linear taper ratio is calculated automatically. During the drawing of bidirectional tapers, the ring of fire (ROF) moves along the fiber to create an exponential taper with very low attenuation.

The instrument is equipped with a built-in cleaver for fibers with an outer diameter up to 500 µm, and thanks to precise optics, it is possible to automatically locate the cleave point based on the specified diameter value of the tapered fiber.
