An adjustable bend radius allows the strain level to be matched to the fiber diameter and the defined test procedure.

Controlled bend proof testing for large-diameter fibers
The 3SAE Large Diameter Bend Proof Tester (BPT) checks the mechanical integrity of fibers and splices with cladding diameters from 200 µm to 1 mm. It induces a controlled bend and automatically rotates the fiber about its axis to qualify the full circumference.

Operating principle
An alternative to linear tensile testing of large fibers
Automatic fiber rotation helps test the entire circumference rather than a single orientation.
Automatic strain release, straightforward loading and adjustable rotation speed simplify operator setup.
Important: the BPT uses a distinct bend-proof method. Its result must not be treated as automatically equivalent to an LTT or LTT-LD tensile test without defining the diameter, geometry, bend radius and acceptance criterion.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which fibers does the 3SAE BPT support?
The manufacturer specifies cladding diameters from 200 µm to 1 mm.
Does the BPT replace a linear LTT tester?
Not automatically. The BPT uses controlled bending and rotation, while LTT and LTT-LD perform a linear tensile test. Equivalence requires a defined test geometry and acceptance criterion.
Does the unit require routine calibration?
According to the manufacturer, the BPT design does not require costly routine calibration procedures. The user’s quality system may still require periodic checks.
What is included in the standard package?
The RCT-01-0002 BPT, power supply and electronic user manual. The exact guides and fixtures for a specific fiber should be confirmed in the quotation.
