Wired EGG amplifier (BIOPAC EGG100D)

A wired electrogastrography (EGG) amplifier from the BIOPAC Smart Amplifier series — it records the slow-wave electrical activity of the stomach with a very narrow band (HP 0.005 Hz / LP 1 Hz). Measurement electronics at the electrode reduce interference and artifacts, and acquisition parameters configure automatically in AcqKnowledge. Requires the AMI100D interface and an MP160 or MP200 unit (not MP150), plus AcqKnowledge 5.0.4 or newer.

EGG100D is a Smart Amplifier series amplifier for recording the slow-wave electrical activity of the stomach (EGG) — the measurement electronics sit directly at the electrode, instead of in a module near the acquisition unit.

Thanks to the transducer's proximity, the signal is less susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and motion artifacts, and acquisition parameters configure automatically in AcqKnowledge once connected.

EGG100D is an expansion module, not a standalone system

The EGG100D module by itself does not record or store data on its own. It requires connection via the AMI100D interface to an MP160 or MP200 data acquisition unit (Smart Amplifier modules do NOT work with the MP150), together with AcqKnowledge version 5.0.4 or newer.

EGG100D uses the same general-purpose biopotential lead BN-EL*-LEAD2/LEAD3 as other biopotential modules in this series, together with electrodes — see the section below for details.

Required electrode lead

EGG100D is the amplifier itself — a separately ordered electrode lead and electrodes are needed for measurement. This module has no dedicated lead — it uses the same general-purpose biopotential lead as other 100D modules in this series.

General-purpose biopotential lead

A shared, universal electrode lead used across multiple biopotential modules in the 100D series (not a part dedicated solely to EGG100D). Indirect sources (manufacturer materials not directly confirmed, due to lack of access to biopac.com from this research environment) indicate that EGG100D is likely used with electrodes from the EL500 series on the abdominal skin surface — we treat this as medium-confidence information, to be verified when configuring the order.

Key features

Electronics close to the electrode

The Smart Amplifier architecture places the amplifier right at the electrode — significantly reducing EMI interference and motion artifacts compared with a traditional module near the acquisition unit.

Automatic configuration

Once connected, the module automatically configures acquisition parameters in AcqKnowledge — no manual switch settings required.

Very narrow band for gastric slow waves

HP 0.005 Hz / LP 1 Hz filters give the narrowest band in the entire 100D family — matched to the very slow nature of gastric electrical activity (so-called slow waves), which is orders of magnitude slower than typical biopotential signals (such as ECG or EMG).

Ag/AgCl electrodes only

Gold-plated electrodes should not be used — their high input impedance causes charge build-up and distorts the recorded signal.

Electrodes on the abdomen

Electrodes connected via the BN-EL*-LEAD2/LEAD3 lead, placed along the axis of the stomach on the abdominal skin surface.

EGG100D + AMI100D + MP160/200

The module amplifies the slow-wave signal right at the electrode and sends it via an RJ12 cable to the AMI100D interface, and from there to the acquisition unit.
