Innolume Optical Isolator (OI) – fiber optical isolator 780–1310 nm for laser diodes

The Optical Isolator (OI) from Innolume plays a key role in optical systems: it prevents back reflections and minimizes internal losses. Innolume offers a wide range of fiber optical isolators covering the 780–1310 nm wavelength range, which can be integrated with any single-mode, fiber-coupled device (LD, SLD, SOA, amplifier module) purchased from the company.

What is an optical isolator (OI)?

An optical isolator is a passive, one-way component that transmits light in the working direction with low insertion loss, while strongly attenuating the backward signal (isolation). This protects the laser source from reflections that destabilize the diode operation and increase its noise. For the 1060–1310 nm range, Innolume isolators are offered in a compact 55×5.5×5.5 mm housing at an input power of 300–500 mW. For shorter wavelengths (780–1060 nm) a larger, metal housing is used (up to 118×37×35 mm) made of materials that absorb optical power less; selected high-power isolators handle input power up to 1 W. To reduce losses and back coupling, the devices can be joined by splicing.

Key features

Wide wavelength range: effective operation across 780–1310 nm, with the option to select an isolator for a specific wavelength.
Compact housing and high power: 55×5.5×5.5 mm for 1060–1310 nm (300–500 mW) and a larger housing for shorter wavelengths and power up to 1 W.
High isolation: up to 58 dB (double-stage versions).
Low insertion loss: insertion loss from as little as 0.6 dB.
Easy integration: works with any single-mode Innolume fiber device.
PM or HI fiber: versions with polarization-maintaining fiber (PM980/PM1300) or HI1060.
Components on request: fiber couplers, circulators and patch cords.

Variants / types

Single-stage: isolation typically 20–40 dB, lower insertion loss.
Double-stage: higher isolation up to 58 dB (e.g. at 1310 nm).
PM versions: polarization-maintaining fiber, extinction ratio typically 20–23 dB.
HI versions: HI1060 fiber for the range of approx. 1030–1085 nm.
