The NorthLab End Face Prep Station (EPSII) generates very flat and highly polished end faces, with consistent results for shaped fibers.
Cleaving large-diameter optical fibers involves many challenges, all the more so as the fiber diameter increases. Fibers are variously shaped or have internal structures that interfere with conventional cleaving technologies. The NorthLab End Face Prep Station (EPSII) meets these challenges and generates very flat and highly polished end faces, with consistent results for shaped fibers. The EPS II can also be used for angle polishing with rotation up to 15° (from vertical). The EPSII is a purpose-built LD fiber preparation unit. The EPSII is supplied with a selection of standard programs to ensure repeatable operation. A built-in LCD screen guides the user through the correct actions for each step; no special skill or „touch” is required. The precision EPS clamp holds the fibers and an automated system smoothly lowers the fibers onto the polishing plate. The EPSII is supplied with an external ultrasonic cleaner to ensure optimal fiber cleanliness after polishing. The EPSII has a built-in (filtered) air nozzle for drying the fiber after the cleaning process.
