Distributed Temperature and Strain Measurements

LUNA OBR 4600 belongs to the Optical Backscatter Reflectometer product line. Designed for testing and troubleshooting optical components and short networks. The OBR 4600 offers ultra-high resolution and sensitivity to backscatter. Thanks to spatial resolution down to 10 µm and zero dead zone, the OBR delivers top-quality fiber diagnostics.

As an OBR, LUNA includes software for temperature and strain measurements, allowing it to turn a standard telecom optical fiber into a high-resolution strain and temperature sensor.

The OBR uses the swept-wavelength interferometry (SWI) method to measure Rayleigh backscatter. An external stimulus (strain or temperature change) causes temporary changes (a shift) in the spectrum. The OBR evaluates these shifts and scaling during measurements. The SWI method enables robust and practical temperature and strain measurement in a fiber up to 70 m long
