FBG Strain Sensor

The FBGS-01 optical fiber strain sensor measures tension or compression between two fixed points. It uses Fiber Bragg Grating technology.

The standard gauge length ranges from 250 mm to 2 meters. The sensor has connectors on both sides and can be used standalone or in series as part of an FBG sensor array. Installing and wiring such arrays is significantly less expensive and less cumbersome than comparable electronic measurement networks.

The FBGS-01 strain sensor can be mounted directly on the surface of a structure using adhesive. The sensor is supplied with two aluminum L-brackets and mounting elements. In this way the optical fiber sensor is in direct contact with the surface and therefore accurately measures the strain on the surface.

The FBGS-01 strain sensor features high accuracy and resolution as well as immunity to electrical sparks and electromagnetic interference. It is suitable for remote sensing and can be installed several kilometers away from the measurement unit.

The device enables continuous monitoring of the condition of structures, cracks and fissures in (concrete) walls, monitoring of bridges, dams, buildings, tunnels, ships, trains and other complex structures, etc. Electrical power is not required on site; the interrogator can be placed dozens of kilometers away.
