We have launched the Fiber Optic Measurement Academy — free online training built on our in-house handbook “Measurements of single-mode fiber optic lines”. With one fundamental difference: instead of static drawings you get interactive simulators. You set the parameters, and physics responds before your eyes.
A handbook that runs live
A trace in a book is always the same. In the Academy you decide: you change the pulse from 100 ns to 1 µs and watch the dead zone grow; you build a line from connectors, splices and splitters and check how it looks on the graph; you bend the fiber and observe how attenuation escapes at 1625 nm faster than at 1310 nm. You cannot read this — you have to click through it.
Program — seven chapters
- 1Laser light safetyLaser classes, telecom power levels, safety calculator.
- 2Connector inspection and cleaningVirtual microscope, contamination migration, cleaning arsenal and connector cheat sheet.
- 3Attenuation measurement by the transmission methodSource + power meter, reference methods 1a/1b/1c on an animated setup.
- 4Reflectance and optical return lossFresnel reflections, PC/APC connectors, reflectance marker trainer.
- 5OTDR reflectometryThe largest chapter: simulator, line editor, event catalog, gainers, macrobends, PON, result accuracy.
- 6Field technician best practicesHabit checklist, internal reference standard, OTDR port hygiene.
- 7Structured cabling certificationTier 1 / Tier 2, attenuation budget per ISO and TIA, reference methods, system warranty requirements.
- ★Field technician cheat sheetFiber color codes, dB/dBm, pulse→length, PLC splitters, typical measured values.
Who it is for
- Installers and field technicians — from the first splice to route acceptance with a test report.
- Network maintenance — PON diagnostics, bend location, bidirectional measurement in practice.
- Companies preparing for cabling certification — chapter 7 explains what a Tier 1 tester really measures, and what Tier 2 adds.
- Vocational and university students in ICT programs — the physics of measurements without boring formulas to start.
How to get access
Chapters 1–2 and the cheat sheet are open to everyone — you just come in and click. The remaining chapters are unlocked by free registration: first name, phone number and a business e-mail address; the activation link arrives in your inbox, and access stays on your device. No fees and no obligations — we simply want to stay in touch with informed users of measurement equipment.
The Academy also has a full English version — if you have English-speaking people on your team, the material is 1:1.

The material is based on the INTERLAB handbook (Warsaw 2014, ISBN 978-83-940673-0-4) edited by Jakub Koryciński, expanded with structured cabling certification per the current editions of the ISO/IEC 11801, PN-EN 50173 and ISO/IEC 14763-3:2024 standards.
