Luna RIO Lasers

Luna RIO Lasers are a family of semiconductor single-frequency lasers with a spectral linewidth below 1 kHz, manufactured by Luna Innovations (RIO Lasers, USA). The design is based on a patented planar external cavity (PLANEX ECL technology: gain chip + planar waveguide circuit with a Bragg grating) and combines very low phase noise and low RIN with guaranteed mode-hop-free operation across the entire temperature range and throughout the laser’s lifetime.

RIO model families

PLANEX — a laser diode in a standard butterfly package, intended for OEM integration and volume production. ORION — a laser module with a PLANEX diode, digital current and temperature stabilization, designed for continuous 24/7 operation (CW and fast frequency modulation options). ORION Laser Source — a ready-to-use, benchtop turn-key laboratory source based on the ORION module. RIO GRANDE — a high-power module: ORION integrated with a low-noise EDFA amplifier, output power up to 2 W (1545–1565 nm), control and monitoring via RS-232.
